Mike’s Story

Mike was hired by Tualatin Valley Fire & Rescue in 2009 after working for the City of Fullerton, CA as a firefighter for 10 years. Upon being hired at TVF&R, Mike and Ivy used the money they had saved by living on a small sailboat and purchased a property just outside of Hood River where they wanted to start a family and working farm.

At TVF&R, Mike served most of his time on the Technical Rescue team as an Apparatus Operator and Paramedic. In 2020, Mike was diagnosed with a Grade 2 Glioma brain tumor. He has undergone 2 major brain surgeries, years of chemotherapy and intense radiation on his brain making it impossible for him to return to work.

Since Mike’s cancer diagnosis, the Roulette family has transformed their double mountain view property into the Hope Ranch Lavender Farm and hope to transform it into an equitable business by utilizing it as a wedding venue. In order to make this dream come true for Mike, Ivy and their 3 children, they need to build a structure to comply with County regulations which is where our help with the Hood River Barnraiser comes in…
